LOGIN Volunteer Program

Attend the LOGIN Conference by becoming a volunteer. Participation in the Volunteer Program will give you a backstage look into the inner workings of LOGIN while contributing to the success of this event. In your free time, you will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with industry professionals, as well as attend conference sessions and events.

Volunteers are expected to be available for a total of 10-12 hours of work over the course of the conference.

Take the first step to becoming part of the mechanism that makes the LOGIN Conference run. Fill out the online application by May 4, 2009.

Qualifications

Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before 12 May 2009 to participate as a student volunteer. Students must present a current, government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport at LOGIN 2009 in order to receive their conference badges and materials. Applicants under 18 years old will not be considered for the LOGIN 2009 Volunteer Program.

Applicants must be proficient in English, and all applications must be submitted in English.

All volunteers, regardless of discipline or area of interest, are encouraged to apply. No prior experience with the games industry is required. We are looking for reliable, hard-working, self-starting, independent, enthusiastic volunteers who are excited about the conference and who want to be among the next generation of industry leaders and professionals.

Q. When is the deadline to submit an application to the Volunteer program?

The deadline for all completed Volunteers applications is Friday, April 25, 2009.

Q. How to I apply to be a volunteer?

Q. Who is eligible to be a volunteer?

Anyone may become a volunteer at LOGIN 2009. Undergraduate and graduate students are preferred. You will need to be 18 years of age on or before May 6, 2009.

Q. When are volunteers needed?

Some volunteers are needed the week prior to the conference and a few days after for setup and/or teardown support on a few programs. Please indicate in your application if you are both interested and available before or after the official conference dates.

Q. What do I get by being a volunteer?

LOGIN STAFFThe conference provides volunteers with:

  • Registration to the conference including technical sessions and keynote addresses
  • Access to the exhibit area
  • Conference proceedings on CD-ROM
  • Conference staff shirt
  • Access to conferences meals, including lunches, snacks, and receptions

Q. What don't I get as a volunteer?

All volunteers are responsible for their own travel to and from the conference hotel.

Q. Do I have a say in what work I do as a volunteer?

You can indicate your preferences on the Volunteer application, but we will assign duties according to the needs of the conference. If you have special skills or limitations, we will take these into account.

Q. Do I have to be there for the whole conference to be a volunteer?

No. We realize that other commitments (like school) exist. You will need to be able to devote enough time to work a total of 10 hours during the conference.

Q. What should I wear during the conference?

Lightweight, comfortable clothes and shoes (appropriate jeans, trousers, sneakers). Many attendees dress casually during the conference. It is very important that you bring comfortable shoes! You will be walking quite a bit during the week, and comfort is key. All volunteers will be given a staff shirt to wear (and take home).

Q. How early will I be expected to work?

Depending on the duties assigned, volunteers may have shifts that start as early as 7:30 am. Volunteers need to report to the Volunteers office 30 minutes prior to their shift's start time to be marked present. Volunteers will then be taken to their assignments by their Team Leader.

Q. How late am I expected to work?

Most of the events will be finished around 6 or 7 pm at the latest. However, there are shifts that do run later. Some volunteers may have schedules that run as late as 11 pm.

Responsibilities

Volunteers make a commitment to volunteer for a total of 12 hours between Wednesday, 11 May 2009 and Friday, 15 May 2009.

All volunteers will receive a Conference Access badge (equivalent to Full Conference registration) and a spiffy staff shirt.

Volunteers are responsible for their own travel to and from the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, Seattle, as well as their own meals during their time at the conference.

Opportunties

> Bag Stuffing - Assemble conference bags. Its a wonderful opportunity to get to know other volunteers while performing an essential function before the conference begins.

> Registration/Information Kiosk - Volunteers will assist Evergreen Events staff at the registration desk by greeting attendees, distributing badges and registration materials, and and answering attendees questions.

> Press Room Ushers - Overall responsibility for Press Room, including maintaining appearance, welcoming press, collecting business cards, facilitating press room schedule.

> Speaker Lounge Ushers - Overall responsibility for Speaker Lounge, including maintaining appearance, checking speaker badges, welcoming speakers and distributing registration materials.

> Session Room Ushers - Volunteers will facilitate the logistics of conference sessions. Volunteers assume overall responsibility for the presentation room, session evaluations, and related logistics. There will be two ushers per session room. Users will check badges, distribute and collect session evaluation forms.

> Runners - Volunteers will do clerical tasks in the conference operations office, including photocopying, answering the phone, entering session evaluations and other tasks as directed, as well as provide support for Evergreen Events staff as runners and trouble-shooters.

> Conference Store - Sell shirts, hats, and other conference merchandise.
